COP26 Gender Day 9th November 2021

Glasgow is hosting COP26, the United Nations 26th Conference of the Parties, which is an annual climate summit organised by the UN where world leaders and thousands of delegates come together to tackle climate change issues.

Last year’s event took place from October 31 to 12th November, at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow and around 10,000 officers were deployed each day during the conference which was one of the largest policing operations undertaken in Britain.

Officers were drafted from all divisions across Scotland, supported by a substantial number of colleagues from other UK police services as part of mutual aid arrangements.

The huge security operation involved local policing officers from each of Scotland’s 13 divisions and specialist resources, including firearms officers, dog handlers, mounted branch, search teams and the marine unit.

Women are disproportionally impacted by climate change. During COP26 delegate discussed solutions and innovation, spotlighting diverse & inspirational women from around the world.

During the course of the event SWDF were spotlighting some of the many inspirational women working in specialist roles during COP26.

The photographs featured in this short video have been taken by Sergeant Jenni Stuart who is also photographing police officers and staff for the SWDF Women in Policing Photography Project which will be launched in Summer 2022.
